ATLANTA, Georgia (August 31, 2015) – The Atlanta-based Turknett Leadership Group (TLG) and the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership announced a celebratory event to reflect on and learn from eleven years of the Leadership Character Awards programs. This year’s special event entitled “Learning from Leaders of Character” will take place on October 15, 2015 from 4:30 – 7 pm at the Buckhead Club. Attendees are invited to a reception followed by a keynote and a panel discussion with past award winners. A top award recipient in 2011, Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO AT&T Mobile and Business Solutions, will be the featured keynote speaker.
Mr. de la Vega won the Leadership Character Award in the Large Company CEO category in 2011. Under his leadership, AT&T Mobility has become one of the largest smartphone and mobile Internet providers worldwide. Mr. de la Vega is also the author of the best-selling book Obstacles Welcome: Turn Adversity to Advantage in Business and Life. Susan Hitchcock, TLG’s Executive Director of Women’s Initiatives, who has known de la Vega for over four decades, said, “I don’t know of another executive who has shown more character in his professional and personal life than Ralph or one who has given more back to the community – including his extraordinary contributions to Jr. Achievement. He is one of the most distinguished business leaders in the country.”
The panelists for the event, all of whom are past winners, will be Claire Lewis “Yum” Arnold, Chairman and CEO of Leapfrog Services, Inc., Letty Ashworth, Director – Global Diversity of Delta Airlines, Milton Little, President of United Way of Greater Atlanta, Mike Petrik, Partner at Alston & Bird, and John Yates, Partner at Morris, Manning, & Martin. Pat Falotico, CEO of Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, will be the panel moderator.
The panel of past award winners will discuss their insights and experiences about developing and sustaining character in their personal leadership and in the organizations they lead. The 2016 Turknett Leadership Character Awards will be held in the Fall in partnership with the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, and nominations will be open in February 2016. “It is an honor to collaborate with the Turknett Leadership Group in celebration of Greater Atlanta servant-leaders,” says Pat Falotico, CEO of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership. “These leaders embody the definition that Robert Greenleaf gave us so many years ago. Since 2003, the annual Turknett Leadership Character Awards have recognized Georgia leaders who demonstrate character in leadership based on alignment with the Leadership Character Model™, a model developed by Bob and Lyn Turknett in 1995. The model represents character as a scale with integrity as the base and respect and responsibility balanced on either side.
