10/1/09: Susan Hitchcock is among a slate of nine leaders selected to serve as judges for the 10th Annual Women Of the Year in Technology Awards presented by Grant Thornton. Nine finalists were announced at a reception on August 20th in the following categories: Emerging/Small Organizations; Mid Size / Medium Organizations; and Enterprise Organizations. Winners in each category will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on October 1st at the Renaissance Galleria Hotel. Reservations may be made at

5/26/09: Atlanta Women’s Agenda and the Women’s Policy Group will host a breakfast with the Mayor and a panel of experts for the purpose of discussing the impact of the economy on women’s lives and the opportunity for change.Registration and the complimentary breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Mayor Shirley Franklin and the panel will speak from 8 to 9 a.m. Panelists include: Rhea Gordon, PhD, Psychologist; Lisa Boone, Smith Barney Financial Planner; and Elizabeth Appley, Legislative Counsel for the Women’s Policy Group. The event is set to take place at the City Council Chambers; Second Floor, Atlanta City Hall; 55 Trinity Ave., SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. 5/12/09: The 2nd Annual Nellie Duke Leadership Symposium will be held in the Z-6 Building at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m., and will last until 2:30 p.m. The Symposium is being sponsored by the University’s Department of Education, the Lamar Plunkett Lecture Series, the Georgia Commission on Women and the Georgia Women’s Institute. Susan Hitchcock of Turknett Leadership Group will give the keynote address. There will be two plenary sessions with presentations on leadership, and a report on the status of women.


7/26/08: Professional Women’s Anonymous (PWA or announces its second Annual Fundraiser & Awards Luncheon on July 26th, Golf & Tennis starts 8:00am at Chateau Élan Winery and Resort 6060 Golf Club Drive, Atlanta, GA. The Luncheon will recognize winners of the 2008 Tennis and Golf Celebrity Challenge winners, organization sponsors and members who have supported PWA during the past year and aims to raise funds to support its cause nationwide. 6/27/08: WBENC is hosting it’s Women in Business 2008 International Day, with a panel discussion facilitated by Global EXEC Women and moderated by Virginia Bradley – Founder & Publisher, Global EXEC Women. Speakers include Kristen Hirst – Senior Vice President, North of England Inward Investment and Allison Turner – Director, Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency. WBENC’s “International Day” is an additional program hosted in cooperation with Global EXEC Women that enhances the Women in Business (WIB) conference. 6/17/08: Turknett Leadership Group’s Susan B.Hitcock will moderate the “Encouraging Involvement in Professional Organizations” panel discussion, hosted by UPS’ Women’s Leadership Development: Business Connections Committee. 5/14/08: The YWCA of Atlanta Celebrates the 25th Annual Salute to Women of Achievement Luncheon

This wonderful event will take place Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in the Georgia Ballroom at the Georgia World Congress Center. For more than 20 years, the YWCA has honored Atlanta’s premier female role models through the Academy of Women Achievers. Each year, 10 women are nominated by their peers into the Academy and are recognized at the annual Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon in May. These women represent what every young girl hopes she can become and will become with opportunity and support. The Academy of Women Achievers is the first major program to recognize the professional and civic accomplishments of Atlanta’s women. Members of the Academy include Jane Fonda, Mayor Shirley Franklin, Monica Kaufman, Gladys Knight and Rosalynn Carter.

11/8 – 11/10/07: Join TIAW for “Inspiring Women Leaders – Global Collaboration”.

Each year, The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) hosts it 2007 Global Partnership Forum, one of two key annual events where its members get the unique opportunity to build and cement relationships by meeting face-to-face. The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) serves as the global umbrella organization that unites, supports and promotes professional women and their networks to work together, share resources and leverage ideas. 11/3/07: Turknett’s own Susan Hitchcock to speak at Agnes Scott College’s Anne Register Jones Leadership Conference on Networking and Negotiation. A dynamic three-part presentation and panel discussion on the power of networking for personal and professional success will include speakers Susan Stevens Hitchcock, Agnes Scott alum, a former BellSouth leader, and now Vice President of Client Services and Director of Women’s Initiatives for Turknett Leadership Group in Atlanta, GA. She is a consultant and writer on the advancement of women in the workplace; Bob Littell, author of The Heart and Art of Netweaving, and Denise Billups, IBM executive and community leader. The Anne Register Jones Leadership Conference is an inclusive leadership training program for women. All Agnes Scott alumnae, faculty, staff and students, as well as local women, are invited to participate. This year’s conference focuses on networking and negotiating, two skills in which recent research indicates a gender gap.

8/23/07: Turknett Leadership Group, a sponsor of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta Cole Society luncheon with Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole. Turknett Leadership Group was a sponsor of the United Way Cole Society luncheon on Thursday, August 23. More than 200 were in attendance at the Atlanta History Center’s Grand Overlook ballroom. Milton J. Little, Jr., president of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, introduced Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, who shared insights on the meaning and importance of civic engagement across gender lines, and at the tea, addressed fellow “sister members” of the United Way Cole Society by giving a call to action advocating leadership among women in our community. Dr. Cole, for whom the United Way Cole society is named and who helped push women’s leadership at United Way, was the first African American female president of Spelman College in Atlanta. Bob and Lyn Turknett were past co-chairs of the United Way Cole Society.
